Summary:A novel 3D anti-tetrachiral structure with negative Poisson's ratio, based on a 2D anti-tetrachiral structure, was proposed in this paper. The 3D structure consists of two different perpendicular 2D anti-tetrachiral honeycomb cells connected by ligaments. The deformation mechanism of the structure was investigated, and analytical solutions for the Poisson's ratio of the cellular structure were obtained, which indicates a wide range of mechanical property via adjusting its geometric parameters. It was found that one of the Poisson's ratios is always −1 and is independent of the geometric parameters. Based on the energy method, the equivalent elastic moduli of the proposed structure along the three primary directions were also obtained. The analytical results were agree well with finite element analysis results. It was verified that the present analytical model can provide a relatively accurate solution in the prediction of the performance of auxetic structures.
