On the scattering of X-rays by structures containing a random distribution of defects

A recent treatment of the diffuse scattering of X-rays by defect structures (Keating 1968) has been shown to contain an approximation which is incorrect in the first order of the concentration of the defects (Hall 1969). When correctly treated the diffuse scattering is referred to the mean (dilated)...

Summary:A recent treatment of the diffuse scattering of X-rays by defect structures (Keating 1968) has been shown to contain an approximation which is incorrect in the first order of the concentration of the defects (Hall 1969). When correctly treated the diffuse scattering is referred to the mean (dilated) lattice and the diffuse scattering attenuated by the same factor as the Bragg reflections. This treatment avoids expanding any exponential in powers of its argument.
