Summary:Polybutylene-1consisting of form II and I in different ratio was achieved by aging pure form II polybutylene-1 for different time and then treated via n-hexane solvent vapor annealing to accelerate phase transition. In situ-X-ray diffraction was used to evaluate the influence of ratio of form II/I on the phase transition in solvent vapor annealing. The results show that the longer the time the PB-1 sample is kept at room temperature after isothermal crystallization, the longer the time requires for completely disappearance of form II during solvent vapor annealing. This phenomenon demonstrate that form I polybutylene-1 generated during natural phase transition hinder the speed of phase transition during solvent vapor annealing. Since form I polybutylene-1 is not soluble in n-hexane, it can be assumed that from II-I phase transition is from the outside to the inside and thus form I polybutylene-1 generated during natural phase transition wrap inside form II and make the diffusion of solvent into the interface of form II more different difficult. This work demonstrates that the acceleration effect of solvent vapor also exist even after PB-1 is kept naturally for some time, which means the solvent vapor annealing is not required right after production.
