Summary:The current response of Bloch electrons is calculated to second order in the external electromagnetic field by operator perturbation theory. Using a simple energy band transition scheme, the results are applied to the production of second harmonic radiation. The dependence of the intensity of the second harmonic light on energy band parameters is found and an estimate of the second harmonic power is made.
