Summary:A series of theoretical models is presented to describe the processes of drug release and absorption following non-invasive administration by the intestinal and the (trans)dermal route. These models are used to analyze experimental data and provide the means to test hypotheses about the involved mechanisms and influence factors. They thus strengthen the basic understanding of drug release and absorption and help establish quantitative relationships that are relevant for the prediction and control of drug delivery.
