Oxidation of niobocene dichloride to niobium(V) cationic species

Oxidations of 1 using copper(II) dichloride and silver tetrafluoroborate produces a niobocene dichloride cation in [Nb( η 5-C 5H 4Bu t ) 2Cl 2][CuCl 2] 1, and a mixed halide cation in [Nb( η 5-C 5H 4Bu t ) 2(Cl)F][BF 4] 2.
