Synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of a novel cerium(IV) arylsiloxide

Summary:Ce(OSiPh 3) 4· xDME (0.5 < x < 1) was prepared from CE(OPr i)4 by exchange reaction with Ph 3SiOH in dimethoxyethane (DME). Crystallization from a toluene-ether mixture yielded monocrystals of Ce(DME)(OSiPh 3) 4· C 6H 5,CH 3, the crystal structure of which was determined by X-ray single-crystal techniques. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, sp.gr. = P2 1/ c, a = 28.078(6) Å, b = 14.628(2) Å, c = 18.739(5) Å, β = 92.24(2)°, V = 7.691 Å 3, Z = 4, R = 0.074 for 4406 observations with I > 3σ( I) and 319 variables. The Ce IV ion exhibits a (4 + 2) coordination by oxygen atoms with four short metal-silyloxy bonds (2 x 2.10(1) Å; 2 x 2.13(1) Å) and two long metal-DME bonds (2.58(1) Å; 2.59(1) Å).
