3 and the impurities in the lithium are controlled by a cold trap and a hot trap. From the safety standpoint, the control of tritium and beryllium-7 concentration in the lithium is the most important issue. Both elements are to be controlled by a cold trap. As an option for the tritium, a hot trap is also considered. Other impurities such as oxygen, nitrogen and carbon which will affect the compatibility of lithium and loop materials are also controlled by the cold and hot traps to an acceptable level. A swamping method to control the tritium concentration is analyzed. |
