Summary:The article investigates the effect of hollow polymer microspheres LegaFoam 120MB, Expancel 920 DUT 40, and Expancel 930 DU 120 on the rheometric, physical, mechanical, and performance properties of rubber based on a combination of isoprene rubber (SKI-3) and butadiene-methylstyrene rubber (SKMS-30 ARK). The element of the rubber compound under study were as followed: vulcanizing agent (sulfur); vulcanization accelerator (2,2'-dibenzthiazole disulfide (Altax)); vulcanization activators (zinc white), stearic acid; rubber peptizing agent (vukhtazin RV/G-M); antioxidant (naphtham-2); vulcanization retarder ( N -nitrosodiphenylamine); filler (carbon black P 803); softeners (rosin, SMPlast oil-polymer resin, petroleum bitumen). The rubber compound was prepared on laboratory rollers LB 320 160/160. The vulcanization parameters of the rubber compound were studied on a MonTech MDR 3000 Basic rheometer at 150°C for 40 min in accordance with ASTM D2084-79. Standard samples for determining physical and mechanical parameters were vulcanized at a temperature of 150°C for 40 min in a P-V-100-3RT-2-PCD type vulcanizing press. The main characteristics of the vulcanizates were determined according to the current standards in the rubber industry. It has been established that the rubber compound containing 2.0 pts. wt. LegaFoam 120MB microspheres per 100 pts. wt. of rubber shows the best rheometric, physical, and mechanical properties and the least significant changes after aging in air at 100 °C and holding in 20% solutions of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide at 23°C for 24 h. This rubber compound can be recommended for coating metal surfaces used in corrosive environment.
