Synthesis, NMR and structural studies of cluster derivatives derived from reactions of 1,2,3-triphenyl-1,2,3-triphosphaindan with [Os 3(CO) 10(μ-H) 2]

Reactions of 1,2,3-triphenyl-1,2,3-triphosphaindan ( I) with [Os 3(CO) 10(μ-H) 2] at various conditions afford a series of osmium carbonyl cluster derivatives: an open bent-chain trinuclear cluster [Os 3(CO) 9{μ 3-η 3-PPhC 6H 4(PPh) 2}] ( 1), a di-substituted bridged trinuclear cluster [Os 3(CO) 10{...

Summary:Reactions of 1,2,3-triphenyl-1,2,3-triphosphaindan ( I) with [Os 3(CO) 10(μ-H) 2] at various conditions afford a series of osmium carbonyl cluster derivatives: an open bent-chain trinuclear cluster [Os 3(CO) 9{μ 3-η 3-PPhC 6H 4(PPh) 2}] ( 1), a di-substituted bridged trinuclear cluster [Os 3(CO) 10{μ-1,3-η 2-C 6H 4(PPh) 3}] ( 2), a 1,3-linked bis-trinuclear hydride cluster [{(μ-H) 2Os 3(CO) 9} 2{μ-1,3-η 2-{C 6H 4(PPh) 3}] ( 3), an open bent-chain trinuclear cluster [Os 3(CO) 7{C 6H 4(PPh) 3}{μ 3-η 3-{(PPh) 2C 6H 4PPh}] ( 4), and a closed trinuclear cluster [(μ-H)Os 3(CO) 8{C 6H 4(PPh) 3}{μ-η 3-{C 6H 4(PPh) 2PC 6H 4}] ( 5). All the compounds obtained have been fully characterized by spectroscopic methods (IR, FABMS, 1H- and 31P-NMR spectroscopy), and the molecular structures of 3, 4, 5 are established by X-ray crystallography.
