Amine adducts of tert-butylthiolate gallium hydrides—synthetic and X-ray crystallographic studies

Amine adducts of tert-butylthiolate gallium hydrides were synthesized for possible use as precursors to gallium sulfide films. Reactions of GaH 3L (L=NMe 3 or quinuclidine) with 1 or 2 equiv. of t-BuSH and GaH 3− x Cl x (quin) with 1 or 2 equiv. of LiS- t-Bu produced mixtures of products. The comple...

Summary:Amine adducts of tert-butylthiolate gallium hydrides were synthesized for possible use as precursors to gallium sulfide films. Reactions of GaH 3L (L=NMe 3 or quinuclidine) with 1 or 2 equiv. of t-BuSH and GaH 3− x Cl x (quin) with 1 or 2 equiv. of LiS- t-Bu produced mixtures of products. The complexes GaH(S t-Bu) 2(NMe 3) and GaH 2(S t-Bu)(quin) were isolated as crystalline solids from the product mixtures and both were characterized by X-ray crystallography. In the solid state, GaH(S t-Bu) 2(NMe 3) is best described as having a trigonal pyramidal geometry. The complexes Ga(S t-Bu) 3L (L=NMe 3 or quinuclidine) were synthesized from GaH 3L and a slight excess of t-BuSH. The complexes Ga(S t-Bu) 3L (L=NMe 3 or quinuclidine) were synthesized from GaH 3L and a slight excess of t-BuSH. Similar reactions involving less than stoichiometric amounts of thiol resulted in mixtures of products from which crystalline GaH(S t-Bu) 2(NMe 3) and GaH 2(S t-Bu)(quinuclidine) could be isolated. In the solid state, GaH(S t-Bu) 2(NMe 3) has a trigonal pyramidal geometry.
