Summary: | The syntheses of novel triphenylene-ferrocene dyads linked by long or short chain containing conjugated structures were reported in good yields. Their electrochemical properties and mesophase behaviors were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, respectively. Triphenylene-ferrocene dyad with long chain containing conjugated structure 5 possessed redox property but no mesomorphic property. Triphenylene-ferrocene dyad with short chain containing conjugated structure 7 exhibited not only reversible electrochemical response property but also ordered hexagonal columnar mesophase for the first time.
