Summary:Many applications of secondary Li batteries require high voltage power sources which necessitate the fabrication of batteries in which a number of cells are connected in series. A built-in mechanism to prevent overcharge is a highly essential feature of such batteries in order to maintain capacity balance among their individual cells as well as to prevent oxidative degradation of the electrolyte. This paper discusses the use of n-butylferrocene for overcharge protection of secondary Li batteries.
