Summary:A multivariate similarity analysis (Penrose distance) based on 10 anthropometric characteristics was performed for 16 tribes of southwestern Africa. The cluster analysis (graph method) of the distance measurements results in a clear segregation of the negrids and the Khosisanids and also in a classification of negrids which lends itself well to interpretation. Here, the Dama in Namibia, whose origin presents a particular problem, form together with another primitive tribe a branch of their own.
