Triphosphorus pentaiodide (P 3I 5), a new phosphorus(III) halide

The novel phosphorus(III) halide I 2PP(I)PI 2 (P 3I 5) has been obtained in solution as one component of a complex reaction mixture by two different routes, and characterised by 31P NMR spectroscopy. From the reaction of two different systems of a phosphorus(III) halide and a phosphorus(V) thiohalid...

Summary:The novel phosphorus(III) halide I 2PP(I)PI 2 (P 3I 5) has been obtained in solution as one component of a complex reaction mixture by two different routes, and characterised by 31P NMR spectroscopy. From the reaction of two different systems of a phosphorus(III) halide and a phosphorus(V) thiohalide with metallic zinc, the novel phosphorus(III) halide P 3I 5 has been identified in solution as one component of the complex mixtures, by means of 31P NMR spectroscopy.
