Summary:A rigorous mathematical model of electromagnetic‐wave scattering by a complicated axially symmetric resonator‐type junction in a circular waveguide is developed. The efficiency, accuracy, and stability of the solution and its numerical implementation provide a robust numerical tool for the synthesis of the waveguide unit with required characteristics. Extensive numerical experiments result in the design of a matching vacuum window possessing the features of an H02 ⇒ H01 mode converter. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
