Summary:A detailed study of the collection of micro amounts of steroids from GLC is presented. Collection is quantitative over a wide range of steroid concentrations (1–200 μg) when the argon effluent is condensed in a U-tube immersed in liquid nitrogen. It is also possible to collect steroids quantitatively from GLC in capillaries maintained at room temperature. By using a 1-mm i.d. glass tube as the receiver, the exact amount of collected steroid may be calculated from a suitable equation for a 1–100 μg range; or quantitative collection may be obtained over a limited range by employing a 0.6-mm i.d. capillary.
