Summary:The present U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) program for the multiyear development of open-cycle, coal-fired, MHD electric power generation is focused on achievement of integrated, subsystem, proof-of-concept (POC) testing. The POC tests of integrated topping-cycle and bottoming-cycle subsystems will be conducted at a size, and for a duration, sufficient to collect data that will enable a completely integrated, prototypic MHD plant to be designed, constructed, and operated.
