Summary:We study the thermodynamical properties of a Dicke model with classical spins. As in the quantum case, the model exhibits a phase transition associated with the spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry. We calculate the thermodynamical equilibrium photon state in a relatively simple way both at any temperature and in the presence of an external field. We emphasize that the phase transition is conneccted with the existence of an observable phase operator below the critical temperature.
