Summary: | Dental treatment of a 4-year-old boy included the extraction of all deciduous teeth and construction of immediate complete dentures to serve until the permanent teeth erupted. Important findings from follow-up examinations of this patient follow.
1.
1. The patient, at this young age, tolerated and accepted the complete dentures very satisfactorily.
2.
2. The absence of the primary dentition apparently did not affect the eruption and positioning of the permanent teeth.
3.
3. During the 3 year edentulous period, the general growth pattern of the facial components was within normal limits.
4.
4. By the end of the edentulous period, the maxillae and mandible demonstrated deficiency in their growth in the vertical plane.
5.
5. By the end of the edentulous period, the mandible appeared to be in a prognathic relationship and longer anteroposteriorly when compared to the standard composite for the same age group. |
