Summary:•Magnetic nanocomposites serve a significant function in the biomedical field.•Alginate is frequently used in drug delivery applications.•Magnetic hyperthermia is used to destroy cancer cells.•FeNP@SiOH@Alg for drug delivery and magnetic hyperthermia applications. A biopolymer sodium alginate (Alg) functionalized core–shell magnetic silica composite (FeNP@SiOH@Alg) has been proposed for pH-responsive drug delivery and magnetic hyperthermia applications. Various instruments such as XRD, FTIR, SEM, and TGA analysis were accessed to characterize the FeNP@SiOH@Alg. Under the alternating magnetic field (AMF), the magnetic hyperthermia and pH-responsive drug delivery efficiency of the prepared FeNP@SiOH@Alg were examined using doxorubicin (Dox) as a modal drug. Furthermore, the in vitro biocompatibility of the FeNP@SiOH@Alg on MDA-MB-231 cells was examined. All the findings indicated that FeNP@SiOH@Alg is effective for magnetic hyperthermia-based chemotherapy applications in cancer therapy.
