Summary:In this short communication, we comment the results recently reported by Ch. Chindam et al. [“Surface energy of parylene C” Materials Letters, available online on the 8th of April 2015, doi: 10.1016/j.matlet.2015.04.009]. The surface energy of parylene C, a widely investigated polymer, is one of the critical parameters for its application as a micrometer biomaterial coating. The surface energy was obtained from single liquid (water) contact angle measurements using the Li–Neumann theoretical model. We comment on the relevance of the reported absolute value of the surface energy as well as the methodology used for its determination. •Comments on the title paper are reported.•Surface energy values of parylene C reported in the paper are discussed.•Comparison with other values available in the literature is presented.•The methodology used for surface energy determination is questioned.•Importance of surface energy of parylene C for biomedical application is underlined.
