Summary:To the Editor: Swimming-pool granulomas are among the most common soft-tissue mycobacterial infections, usually caused by Mycobacterium marinum . 1 The slow-growing "MAIS" ( M. avium-intercellulare-scrofulaceum) complex, on the other hand, consists of opportunistic organisms that depend for their pathogenicity on a preexisting tissue injury. 1 2 3 We report here an interesting case of cutaneous MAIS infectious granuloma. A 28-year-old man presented with a 10-mm erythematous, partially ulcerated cutaneous nodule on the dorsum of his right hand. He recalled a scratch in the area six weeks earlier, when he had repeatedly immersed his hand in a fresh-water aquarium. Examination revealed right epitrochlear, . . .
