Summary:To the Editor: Capnocytophaga, a gram-negative anaerobic periodontal pathogen, has recently been reported to cause abnormalities in white-cell function, inhibiting the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 1 We wish to report a case of successfully treated systemic infection with capnocytophaga in an immunocompromised host. A 76-year-old man with myeloid metaplasia was treated with nitrogen mustard and then left the hospital against medical advice. He returned seven days later and reported epistaxis and weakness.
