Summary:Carbonucleotoids (phosphate-bond linked carbohydrates) and carbopeptoids (peptidebond linked carbohydrates) are proposed as new oligosaccharide ligands. The ready access to these analogues is demonstrated by the facile synthesis of the tetrameric carbonucleotoid 1. The synthesis of the tetrameric oligosaccharide 1 (a representative member of a novel class of potentially biologically important molecules, termed carbonucleotoids and carbopeptoids) is described, starting from D-glucose pentaacetate.
