Summary:A study of the 12C + 12C and 16O + 16O elastic scattering reactions is made in terms of a general stochastic theory of nuclear excitation functions. It is shown that a general understanding of the cross section and a quantitive description of the position and widths of the structures observed is achieved in these terms. Calculations of average elastic widths for the relevant angular momenta are presented and compared with data.
