Summary:Concentrically braced frames have complete truss behavior properties in which the structural elements are governed by axial forces in the elastic region. However, in a large earthquake action, inelastic deformation occurs to the brace elements and the connections, which causes a decrease in the internal resistance force and the energy dissipation capacity. Development of the possibility to return to the seismic resistance system without residual strain is necessary to solve this problem. In this paper, the steel frame of the superelastic SMA wire bundle brace with the proper type of connection is set up and an experimental test of one-half scale model is conducted to confirm its seismic applicability. This system effectively creates a system with an adjustable amount of re-centering, which can arguably be used in a wide spectrum of new and existing building structures.
