Edge dislocations — emission centres in deformed anthracene single crystals

Luminescence spectra (4.2 K) and etch patterns of thermally deformed anthracene single crystals are investigated. It is shown that the D 1 band with Δ E = 235 cm −1 (where Δ E is the energy gap between the bottom of the exciton band and the D 1 band) is due to the edge dislocations with the emergenc...

Summary:Luminescence spectra (4.2 K) and etch patterns of thermally deformed anthracene single crystals are investigated. It is shown that the D 1 band with Δ E = 235 cm −1 (where Δ E is the energy gap between the bottom of the exciton band and the D 1 band) is due to the edge dislocations with the emergences at the (001) face running in the [010] direction whereas the D 2 band with Δ E = 275 cm −1 due to those with the emergences along the [100] direction. The former are assumed to be (010)[100]-type dislocations whereas the latter of (100)[010] type.
