Summary:Six groups of double-stranded (ds) RNA mycoviruses have been proposed. The main characteristics which define a group are described, and the properties of members and probable members of each group are tabulated. Possibilities for organization of the groups into families, genera and species are discussed. The classification scheme could ultimately accommodate the majority of the well-characterized dsRNA mycoviruses.
