Summary:In today’s world different types of materials and alloys are being discovered which are difficult to machine or work with conventional machining process. Inconel is one of such material which has wide range applications in different fields such as fabricating combustion chambers, making trays, baskets, fixtures etc used in heat treatment. The main advantage of Inconel is that it is lightweight and has high strength and is resistant to oxidation at a very high temperature. In this paper, we will investigate the effect of cryogenically cooled copper electrode with Inconel 601 as workpiece in Electric Discharge Machine (EDM) process. Input parameters taken are gap voltage, peak current and pulse on time and output parameters taken are material removal rate, tool wear rate and surface roughness. The experimental work is done using Box-Behnken Design in Design of Experiment (DOE). Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is used to get the optimize result for the output variables with varying different input variables. The paper will tell us about the effect of cryogenic cooled electrode on Inconel 601 on EDM.
