Summary:The influence of thermal pretreatment of aspen wood at conditions of pyrolysis and explosive autohydrolysis on the texture and adsorption properties of porous carbon materials (PCM), obtained by alkaline activation of modified samples, was studied. Preliminary pyrolysis of wood at 300 degrees Celsius-400 degrees Celsius promotes the development of porous structure of PCM in the higher degree as compared to explosive autohydrolysis at 170 degrees Celsius-200 degrees Celsius. At optimal conditions of pyrolysis and alkaline activation processes, it is possible to obtain PCM with specific surface area about 3000 m^sup 2^/g.
