Summary:Closed-form exact expressions for local and linearized elastic thermal stresses in thick- and thin-walled circular pipes subject to steady-periodic sinusoidal temperature variations are presented. Fourier series are applied to obtain the corresponding response in the pipe wall to rectangular temperature fluctuations and linear temperature ramps. Universal diagrams of resulting temperatures and stress ranges in terms of dimensionless parameters are shown for various pipe cross sections, load frequencies and heat transfer coefficients for the three types of loads.
