Summary: | •Production of hydrophobic silica nanomaterial with advanced transparent coatings.•In contrast to existing reports THF is used as a solvent with controlled reaction conditions.•Novelty of present work lies in improving transparency from conventional Sol-Gel method.•Novel enhancement in contact angle by conversion into nano-hydrophobic silica fluid.•Simple, portable, cost effective, binder free spray coating was achieved.•No robust coating instruments were used to coat silica nano spray.
Among various nano materials, Silica is quite interesting in hydrophobic applications due to its non-toxic, hydrophobic and eco-friendly nature. A cost effective Sol-Gel method is employed to synthesize Silica nanoparticles followed by calcination (650 °C). In contrast to conventional Ethanol in various reports, here Tetrahydrofuran is used as a solvent with controlled reaction time, pH and temperature. UV–Visible Absorption Spectroscopy, X – Ray Diffraction, Dynamic Light Scattering, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Optical Goniometer are used to characterize the material. A portable-cost effective binder free spray with high transparency coating was obtained with 116.4° contact angle. |
