Summary:An environmentally benign auto combustion method was employed to synthesize chromium substituted nickel ferrite nano particles from aqueous metal nitrate solutions. XRD analysis indicates reduced phase impurity of nickel ferrite sample with increasing Cr substitution for Fe. The same may be observed along with cation redistribution in Raman analysis of the samples. All the above samples show double optical band gap in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The resistivity values of all the above samples indicate an enhancement with increase in chromium substitution. Particles show magnetic core shell model and saturation magnetization increased with increasing Cr substitution.
