Summary:Koreapodagrion coloratus n. gen. n. sp. represents the third known Cretaceous ‘megapodagrionid’ taxon and is described from the lower Albian of the Korean Peninsula. The other two were described from Barremian and Barremian–Aptian deposits from China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, respectively. This distribution in East Asia, suggests that the area was favorable to these damselflies during the Early Cretaceous. Koreapodagrion coloratus n. gen. n. sp. is characterized by a distinctive coloration pattern, colored zones on the wing membrane, and a particular wing venation, inter alia, characterized by an elongate pterostigma, a very long postnodal area, and IR1 with a strong curve below pterostigma. This new taxon highlights the underestimated diversity within the ‘megapodagrionid’ sensu lato.
