Summary:A man-machine work system such as press working is constructed so that the worker is permitted to enter the work space freely, and safety is assured only on the movable machine-side. This paper describes interlocking systems which guard the worker automatically. In this paper, a safety system based on confirming the rotation-stop state of a motor is proposed and the method for constructing fail-safe rotation-stop sensors is presented. In the interlocking system shown here, work-start permission to the man-side is provided as a mechanical output from the machine-side. The rotation-stop-state confirmation signal is produced as a logical product of the confirmation signal indicating that the sensor monitoring rotation of the motor is normal and the output of NOT operation which does not erroneously report rotation-stop-state. The safety system presented in this paper meets the requirement of Section 9.7 of British Standard Code of practicefor safety of machinery.
