Summary:During an alumni reunion event organized by Dr Alvin Jackson during medical school, I would learn that Dr Hunter, from Yellow Springs, Ohio was a 1936 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine! I would later learn by reading his obituary that it appears that he was a member of the National Medical Association! Furthermore, I greatly appreciate the support of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center and Health Sciences leadership including (but not limited to) former OSU President Michael V. Drake, Mr. David McQuaid, Chancellor Hal Paz, our 7 Health Sciences Deans, College of Medicine Vice Dean of Education, Dan Clinchot, Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs, Quinn Capers, Dean's staff, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion: Dr. James Moore, Yolanda Zepeda, Nikki Goldsberry and Aaron Thomas, Diversity Council and Co-Chair Milly Valverde, Health Equity Steering Committee and Co-Chairs Dr. Darrell Gray and Autumn Glover, Anti-Racism Campaign and Co-Chair Dr. Nwando Olayiwola, Senior Associate VP of Human Resources Alison Mincey, and other colleagues across campus and community including our Chief Legal Officer Ann Garcia. For more details about this proposal please read the soon to be published JNMA article entitled, “Investment in African American Institutions: A Remedy for United States Slave Health Deficit”. [...]as National Medical Association President I'll be advocating for initiatives and policies that help to advance health equity. B)In addition, the racism-driven deaths from police-involved violence and the mass incarceration of African Americans call for bold public health action such as the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020 introduced by Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Representative Karen Bass of California, and passed by the House of Representatives on June 25th.
