Summary:Finds that mental health service clients are more likely than the general population to take up smoking, and less likely to quit, and also less likely to engage in physical activity. Shows that drug use among those with mental illness is twice as high as that in the general population. However despite the increased prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and human immunodeficiency virus infection, and despite such clients seeing health professionals as often as other people, finds that little advice or intervention to reduce these risks is offered.
