Summary:A lumped parameter nonlinear model for steam drum dynamics of Advanced Heavy Water Reactor (AHWR) is presented. The model is derived from first principles and captures the complex dynamics of Main Heat Transport System (MHT) thermal hydraulics and steam drum of AHWR. In contrast to earlier reported models, dynamics of boiling boundary, tail pipe and downcomer sections are considered and an improved circulation flow model is used to represent the system dynamics accurately. Transient simulation results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the model in capturing essential dynamics. Model has been linearised and open loop characteristics of the linearised model at various operating power levels are presented.
