Summary:This paper presents a novel single – phase buck – boost AC – AC converter tolerant to dead – time. The proposed converter uses the switching cell structure and coupled inductors in order to avoid the shoot – through problems occurring due to the mis - triggering of gate signals. It is also capable of solving the commutation problem. The proposed buck – boost converter is robust and tolerant to dead – time occurring due to different time delays and limited switching speed of the switches. The converter tolerant to dead – time is designed in such a way that its output is fed as an input to the single – phase asynchronous capacitor – start induction motor. Then the motor's performance parameters like the motor speed, torque, total harmonic distortion (THD) of the main winding and the auxiliary winding currents are analysed under the normal condition and dead – time condition. The simulation results of the proposed converter fed induction motor under both the conditions are presented.
