Summary:Various fabrication techniques of thin films of lanthanides are very well known. Two major techniques, electron gun deposition and thermal resistivity method have been employed here to know their validity in using the fabricated thin films of Samarium (Sm) for elastic cross-section measurements. The purity and thickness of these prepared targets have been verified and confirmed by using several advanced techniques. These targets have also been irradiated during one of the recent nuclear physics experiment involving measurement of the quasi-elastic cross-section. Detailed fabrication methods as well as characterization techniques have been reported.
