Summary:A preliminary evaluation of the chemical and physical properties of tobacco stalks was carried out in comparison with wood species. The objective was to establish tobacco stalks as a raw material for biomass resources. Year round supply was studied using the FAO (1995) data to evaluate their promise to sustain development. In general, the data suggest that tobacco stalks posses the basic qualities and requirements for a material for pulping purposes.
