Summary:A series of alkynylrhenium(I) tricarbonyl diimine complexes with fused thioophene and cyanoacrylic acid moiety has been synthesized and characterized. The light-harvesting properties of the cyanoacrylic acid complexes have been utilized as dyes for the sensitizers in nanocrystalline TiO2 dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). [Display omitted] A series of alkynylrhenium(I) tricarbonyl diimine complexes with fused thiophene and cyanoacrylic acid moiety has been synthesized and characterized. A long-lived charge separated state of these complexes have been found. Preliminary studies to explore the utilization of these complexes as photosensitizers have also been made, which show photoresponse upon light illumination.
