Summary:1) The antibacterial spectrum of propamidine against representative grampositive and gram-negative organisms is presented. 2) The fungistatic action of propamidine has been studied as related to a number of the common superficial and deep pathogens. The sensitivity of some of these organisms compares with that of the gram-positive cocci. 3) The antagonistic effects of a phospholipid on the fungistatic action of propamidine is demonstrated. 4) The important relation of hydrogen ion concentration to bactericidal activity of propamidine has been studied and is discussed from the standpoint of competitive cationic adsorption.
