Improvement of transient performance of DWR synchronous generators by coordination of regulator parameters

The transient stability of a divided-winding-rotor synchronous generator is evaluated by simulating faults, such as a sudden 3-phase short circuit, or sustained loss of excitation in either of the field windings, by proper coordination of regulator parameters. The results are compared with the trans...

Summary:The transient stability of a divided-winding-rotor synchronous generator is evaluated by simulating faults, such as a sudden 3-phase short circuit, or sustained loss of excitation in either of the field windings, by proper coordination of regulator parameters. The results are compared with the transient simulation made on the same generator equipped with regulators as described by previous authors. It is found that by proper coordination of regulator parameters, the generator exhibits better transient performance for all credible operating conditions.
