Summary:Four chelate complexes, [Co(CNC 6 H 3 iPr 2 -2,6) 3 P(C 6 H 4 Me-p) 2 CH 2 CH 2 P(C 6 H 4 Me-p) 2 ]BF 4 , [Co(CNC 6 H 3 iPr 2 -2,6) 3 PPh 2 CH=CHPPh 2 -cis]BF 4 , [Co(CNC 6 H 3 iPr 2 -2,6) 3 PPh 2 C 6 H 4 PPh 2 -o]BF 4 , and [Co(CNC 6 H 3 iPr 2 -2,6) 3 P(C 6 H 4 CF 3 -p) 2 CH 2 CH 2 P(C 6 H 4 CF 3 -p) 2 ]BF 4 , have been synthesized by substitution reactions of [Co(CNC 6 H 3 iPr 2 -2,6) 5 ]BF 4 at elevated temperatures and/or prolonged reaction times. The complexes have been characterized by IR and electronic spectra, 31 P NMR, cyclic voltammetry, and mass spectrometry. Comparisons are made with the pentakis(arylisocyanide)cobalt(I) complexes mono-substituted with diphosphine ligands.
