Summary:The simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of ceftazidime (CTZ) and sulbactam (SBT) in the presence of the overlapping spectra were accomplished with the partial least squares (PLS) and genetic algorithm-partial least squares (GA-PLS) approaches. In this study, the calibration set was based on the absorption spectra in the range of 230–350 nm for 25 different mixtures of CTZ and SBT. The calibration curve was linear over the concentration range of 2–30 and 4–46 μg mL −1 for CTZ and SBT, respectively. These two methods were tested by analyzing the synthetic mixtures of the CTZ and SBT and they were applied to real samples containing a commercial pharmaceutical preparation of the subject drugs. Good results were obtained by the two methods. However, the accuracy of the GA-PLS method was better than that of the PLS method.
