Summary:The Kachanov method is modified to analyze 2D crack-crack interactions in brittle solids under compression. Motivated by the sliding crack mechanism, the interaction of frictional cracks is considered first, followed by the interaction of straight winged cracks subject to a pair of concentrated forces and external compression. The obtained approximate solutions for SIFs are compared with the "exact" numerical ones obtained via a boundary element method.
