A SIMPLE SYNTHESIS OF ETHYL 5-(1,4-CYCLOHEXADIENE-3,6-DIONE-1-YL)-3,5-DIHYDROXY PENTANOATE

Ethyl 5-(1,4-cyclohexadiene-3,6-dione-1-yl)-3,5-dihydroxypentanoate (9) has been synthesized by using the reaction of 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde(4) with beta-ketoester dianions as the key step.
