Structure and synthesis of 1,3,5,7-tetramethoxydithieno[3,4-b;3',4'-e][1,4] dithiin

Starting from thiophene (6), the sequence 2,5-diiodothiophene (7), 2,5-bismethoxythiophene (8), 3,4-dibromo-2,5-bismethoxythiophene (9) finally leads to the title compound 5. The H-1- and C-13-NMR, the MS and IR data and the structure of 5 are reported.
